Secretary of State's Office Establishes YouTube PresenceCOLUMBUS, Ohio - Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner's office has created a YouTube channel where citizens can follow the work of the office. YouTube is another way the office has embraced technology to provide additional outreach to Ohioans. The channel, created earlier this month, provides information to the citizens of Ohio in video format on the workings of the office, elections issues in the state, voter information and events that Secretary Brunner has participated in or the office has coordinated. "By using technology such as YouTube, we are continuing our efforts to reach a new set of constituents and inform them about the services we offer and our work for Ohioans," Secretary Brunner said. "By linking to videos produced in-house we provide timely information to the media, boards of elections and others with recaps of training activities, conferences and more," Secretary Brunner said. One of the more recent videos is a recap of the special election held July 13, 2010 in the 3rd Congressional district. "This was an opportunity for us to show other county boards of elections, in a real way, the unique process of administering this special election with four voting locations as a test pilot," said Secretary Brunner. The Montgomery County Board of Elections gladly assisted the Secretary of State's office as the test county for the video documentation that also involved a test use of electronic poll books. Eight brief videos highlighting the office's activities have already been posted and cover a wide range of topics and events, including Universal Research Services Speaker Series, WELD Power Circle and Panel Discussion, PRIDE! Parade to support voting, Centralized Polling Locations, Electronic Poll Books, 2010 Summer Conference Series. The Secretary of State's YouTube channel, named the "OhioSOSBrunner channel," will allow the Secretary of State's office to engage a new generation of voters and provide information to all Ohio voters in a format that appeals to many people. YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos. The office also maintains a Facebook presence and utilizes its website to provide to subscribers, e-newsletters, news release updates and more from the office as they are released.
