Patrick Elected District LeaderCouncilman Patrick elected Democratic District Leader for Struthers and LowellvilleStruthers Councilman-at-large Michael Patrick was unanimously elected Mahoning County Democratic Party District Leader for Struthers and Lowellville during a meeting of the central committee members who represent the two communities held at Dona Vito's Italian Grille on Thursday, June 18, 2009. Mr. Patrick also serves as the committee person for Struthers Precinct 4-D. Joyce Kale Pesta, assistant director of the Mahoning County Board of Elections, conducted the meeting. Under the provisions of the Constitution of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, district leaders conduct regular meetings of all precinct committee persons in their district and supervise and direct their activities. There are 16 districts within the party. Party Chair David Betras, who attended the meeting, congratulated Councilman Patrick on his election and warned that he would soon be overwhelmed with work. "We are already beginning to make preparations for the 2010 election and our district leaders are going to play a key role in helping our party deliver the largest plurality ever for Governor Strickland and the entire Democratic statewide ticket," he said. "While we are strengthening the Party's infrastructure by acquiring new technology and substantially increasing our communications capability, grassroots activism is what will make or break us. I'm confident Michael is more than capable of getting the job done and I look forward to working with him and every precinct committeeperson in Struthers and Lowellville in the years ahead," Mr. Betras concluded.
