Party Appointments Announced

Chairman Betras names four to important party posts

Chairman David Betras announced today that he has appointed four activists to key positions in the Mahoning County Democratic Party.  Effective immediately John Vivo will serve as the organization's Executive Director, Lyndsey Hughes will assume the post of Communications Director, Brandon Kovach will become Field Director and Director of Volunteer Services, and Bev Reyes will direct the MCDP's voter information and database project.

According to Mr. Betras the new positions are essential components of the ongoing effort to strengthen the Party in advance of next year's statewide election.  "In order to achieve the goals we've set for 2010 and beyond we must substantially improve our performance in each of the areas the new directors will oversee," he said.  "I'm confident that each of them will not just meet, but will exceed expectations."

Mr. Betras noted that the four appointees bring a unique blend of long-term experience and fresh perspectives to their respective positions.  "John Vivo and Bev Reyes have been involved in the Party for decades and have worked on dozens of successful campaigns.   They know what it takes to build and maintain a dynamic and effective political organization from the ground up, and they know how to do it quickly and efficiently" he said.

"At the same time, Lyndsey and Brandon, though relatively young, have been working in the political arena for years and they've learned how to use state-of-the-art technology to bolster every aspect of a campaign from knocking on doors to direct mail to get out the vote drives on election day.  Together, these four dedicated, driven individuals make an impressive team and instantly make ours one of the strongest county parties in Ohio."

Mr. Betras said the fact that all four immediately agreed to assume the posts when they were offered is indicative of the level of commitment that runs throughout the MCDP.  "One of the most gratifying things I've learned during my short time as chair is that people are absolutely eager to serve, to do whatever it takes to strengthen the Party and to improve our community, our state, and our nation," he said.  "That is why I firmly believe that we will do exactly what I promised the Governor and Chris Redfern we'd do in 2010: deliver the votes Democrats will need to win statewide in 2010."
